The federal government announces the release of the 1st batch 200,000 successful candidates of its national social investment programme known as npower. I encourage you to take this opportunity more seriously as it is a call to national duty.
WHAT IS THE NPOWER PROGRAMME
You must have been hearing about the npower programme and its ripples it has send down the nation’s airwaves since its application process commenced in July 2015. The npower programme is a job creation and youth empowerment initiatives designed to help young Nigerians acquire and developed lifelong skills to become solution providers in the domestic and global market. It is a programme designed for Nigerians ages 18-35yrs.
The npower programme is a huge statement by the federal government to reduce the high rate of unemployment among the youths in the country thus it is an all round programme designed to accommodate all. The npower programmes has three main segments, which includes npower volunteer corp. (tech/community), npower knowledge (software, hardware & creative) and npower build.
NPOWER KNOWLEDGE PROGRAMME
The npower knowledge programme which comprises of software, hardware and creative. It is a programme directed at investing in the skills of young Nigerians to stimulate the economy. It is a non-graduate training/tooling job programme that ensures that every participant get engaged in the marketplace in an outsourcing capacity as employees and entrepreneurs. It is intended to train 25, 000 young Nigerians to access the local and global market opportunities in animation, software engineering, Graphic Arts, Device Repair and Assembly, etc
HOW THE N-POWER PROCESS WORKS
The npower programmes works in three different ways which include the processes of application, assessment and selection.
You will recall that the application process for the npower programme started on June 12, 2016 as an online application process for all candidates and closed on August 31, 2016. A total number of 729, 151 applicants applied for the programme of which only 500,000 candidates will be selected.
The npower assessment commenced on September 21, 2016 for all candidates and lasted till October 31, 2016. This was an online aptitude test carried out to determine candidates that will be needed by the agency to undertake the npower programme. The assessment tested applicants’ basic knowledge of English, General Knowledge of Nigeria and Quantitative Reasoning. There were other proramme-specific questions as may have been relevant to each programme segment.
After the conclusion of the online assessment test, a selection process commenced and will be implemented in phases. The first phase has already kicked off with the successful shortlist of 200,000 candidates. The remaining 300,000 candidates will be shortlisted in due course. Here a the selected shortlisted candidates were taken in number as 150,000 candidates from the npower teach/community, 30,000 candidates from the npower Agro and npower health had 20,000 candidates

SHORTLISTED SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES; WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
Congratulations for being shortlisted but now the mission to start the npower programme starts now. Your primary places of assignment will be primary schools, primary health care centres and State Agriculture Development Project (ADPs) within the Local Government Centres of your residence. .
The engagement date for all successful N-Power Volunteer Corps members will be December 1st 2016.Successful shortlisted candidates will be notified by SMS and E-mail from Saturday, November 19th 2016. Hope by now you have receive your sms details?
Then From Monday, November 21st 2016, all successful applicants are required to go to www.npvn.npower.gov.ng where they are expected to log in to their personal NPVC accounts and update their information as may be required.
This NPVC account will be the primary means of constant communication as well as a learning management resource. Successful N-Power Volunteer Corps members must provide valid bank account information for the purposes of payment of monthly stipends.
TRAINING AND INDUCTION
All successful shortlisted candidates will be train in various skills that will enable them face the challenges the programme will offer. they are able to access relevant training material from the N-Power Portal that will prepare them to undertake their assignments. All successful NPVC members are able to gain access to content for learning employability skills such as critical thinking and communication.
For N-Power Health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency will execute specific capacity building exercises within the States, just as the Agriculture Extension Services Department in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for N-Power Agro. Specific Information regarding training and induction will be provided in the subsequent days.
